My eldest started school in September; her new Monday to Friday parallel dimension has opened up a whole new world for us including a steady stream of birthday party invites. I’m not complaining as it’s lovely that her new buddies want her to be there for the celebration, but whoa there.. it’s easy to get carried away with the party gift budget (and I love buying gifts so this could become a potential risk to our mortgage repayments).
I know it’s crazy how many gifts kids can receive at their party but I don’t mind as in our house new toys mainly arrive on birthdays and Christmas (with the odd random ones throughout the year from grandparents after the kids have spent a couple of days with them watching loads of TV and being fed popcorn for breakfast – then home to us – tired, feral, rowdy and half zombie like).
I generally stick to a gift budget of between £5 – £10 and try to find something that a) can possibly be used all year round, b) won’t annoy the parents of the child by being really flimsy or noisy, and c) won’t take up too much room.
There are loads of deals on kids’ gifts at the moment with it being the build up to (shhh!) Christmas, so I thought it’d be a great time to look into bulk buying for the next few months ahead. If you’ve got the cash available at the moment there are 3 for 2 deals, 2 for £10 deals and big packs of books etc which can be split up and given as individual gifts.
In my attempt of being one of those organised parent-types I’m going to go for it… bargain bulk buy… not only saving the cash but the last minute panics!!
Here are a few retailers with some ideal offers… with the deals applied NONE of these items would break the £10 max budget!
