On Valentine’s Day, knackered parents everywhere face the task of trying to have a sexy evening with a total dearth of willing babysitters. For most of us, the formulaic ‘romantic meal at home’ option beckons… but there’s no reason why this exciting blueprint can’t be tailored to complement your hobbies/interests…

For the handymen/women…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together, compliment them on their latest bit of DIY while you subtly mention the next broken thing that needs fixing, and try to have sex before you fall asleep.

For the musos…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together, dig out Guitar Hero from whichever cupboard it is buried in, and try to have sex before you fall asleep.

For the chefs…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together that has also has a starter and pudding as well as a main course, and try to have sex before you fall asleep.

For the arty folk…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together, watch an arthouse film that neither of you fully understand, and try to have sex before you fall asleep.

For the gardeners…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together containing a vegetable grown in the garden, repeat how much nicer it tastes than a Sainsbury’s one, and try to have sex before you fall asleep.

For the book lovers…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together, watch a film that is also a book, periodically discuss which bits of the book the film left out, and try to have sex before you fall asleep.

For the travellers…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together, plan your next family holiday that isn’t camping in Wales, and try to have sex before you fall asleep.

For the pet-lovers…
Wear your ‘going out’ clothes, eat a nice dinner together, and move your pet into a separate room so they don’t off-puttingly eyeball you while you try to have sex before you fall asleep.

See? Who says parenthood can’t be sexy and exciting? Wishing you all a very happy Valentine’s Day, whatever the hell it is you find the energy to do.
